Does this sounds familiar…your driving home from school and remember something (or multiple things) you forgot to complete.  While driving, you scramble for a writing tool to inscribe a message on anything available (napkin, store receipt, hand, dashboard, etc.) before it escapes your memory!  Wouldn’t it be nice if you could simply use your cell phone to leave a reminder voice message that would appear in your e-mail inbox? Try Braincast! Simply visit http://braincast.viatalk.com to sign up for a free account.  You’ll be assigned a toll free number to call and leave your message.  Within minutes, your message is delivered to the designated e-mail account as an attached audio file!

If you are looking to send a message to a group of e-mail accounts, you may want to consider using Jott.  Jott is another free application that works similar to Braincast.  However, in addition to sending messages just to yourself, Jott allows you to send a message to a pre-defined group of e-mail accounts.  It even includes voice recognition so your recording is transcribed as text within the body of the email (no attached audio file like Braincast).  The body of the email does includes a URL (web link) to as stored location of the audio file if the recipient prefers to listen to the message (a great accommodation for multi-modal learners!).  Jott has proven to be a fantastic service for getting information to my staff when I’m not near a computer to send e-mail (whether on contract or not).  While I could call each of them, Jott allows me to make one phone call (i.e. “Hey everyone, your student caseload information is due tomorrow, please don’t forget to send it before noon tomorrow”) and have the message delivered via e-mail to all my staff.  Jott also has a wide range of other delivery services  (see image below) which include the ability to Jott to a To-Do list, or even a Twitter account.  For more information and to setup a free account visit http://jott.com.
