So what’s all the fuss with IE7? Well…IE7 brings a few innovative features that will surely enhance your productivity. Last week, you should have received an email from Ursula Dixit (AIT) which outlined some of the new features. Listed below is my enhanced version of that content as well as a few other tips and tricks for working within IE7.
Tabbed Browsing - View multiple sites in a single browser window. Easily switch from one site to another through tabs at the top of the browser frame.

Quick Tabs – Easily select and navigate through open tabs by displaying thumbnails of them all in a single window.

Tab Groups – Tabs can be grouped and saved into logical categories, so you can open multiple tabs with a single click. A Tab Group can easily be set as the Home Page Group so the entire Tab Group opens every time Internet Explorer is launched.
Instant Search Box - Web searches using your favorite search provider can now be entered into a search box within the toolbar, eliminating the clutter of separate toolbars. You can easily choose a provider from the dropdown list or add more providers.

Different looking Icons – You will notice the Back, Refresh and Stop icons look a little different.

Toolbar positioning – You may notice that the toolbars are moved or not appearing. If you find this, simply click on View on the menu Tool Bar, Select Toolbars and check the Toolbar you may be missing.

RSS – Internet Explorer 7 automatically detects RSS feeds on sites and illuminates an icon on the toolbar. When you visit a webpage you might see the RSS indicator light illuminate orange. If this happens, it means there is a syndication feed you can subscribe to using IE7. If the icon is grey, no syndication feed is present on the site. A single click on the icon allows you to preview and subscribe to the RSS feed if you want—so you’re automatically notified as content is updated. You can read RSS feeds directly in the browser, scan for important stories, and filter your view with search terms or site-specific categories. Have no clue what I’m talking about? It’s OK! I have the magic video that will highlight RSS feeds and make them understandable. Just visit http://www.commoncraft.com/rss_plain_english to watch the video to quickly and easily understand RSS.

So when will you find IE7 on your machine? Well…the rollout of the software is being handled by AIT, but I’d guesstimate within a week or two. The update to IE7 will automatically occur when you log-in to your PC. The update can take some time so please be patient and do not interrupt the install or reboot your PC during the installation. However, there is one action to be taken by you once the update completes. You will be prompted to Click “Yes” to the Pishing filter. Don’t know what that means? Don’t worry, you don’t need to! Just click “Yes” you’ll be up and running with IE7!
